N.H. social worker indicted in theft

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire grand jury has indicted a social worker on a charge of falsely billing the state's Medicaid program more than $21,000 for counseling sessions that weren't provided.

The indictment says 54-year-old Lee Bird of Concord submitted claims on behalf of 10 Medicaid beneficiaries, falsely claiming to have treated them. He's accused of submitting the claims between January 2004 and February 2007.

The case was referred to the Attorney General's Office after an audit by the Medicaid program's surveillance unit.
