NEW PORTLAND - A tour of historic town buildings and homes continues a yearlong celebration of the town's 200th anniversary starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Members of the New Portland Historical Society will conduct the tour, which includes stops at some of the oldest and most well-known homes and former businesses in town.

Tickets, with a map of the tour, are $6 and are available at the historic building behind the church in the North Village. A lunch following the tour will feature lasagna, coleslaw, bread, beverage and birthday cake.

Local residents have been asked to participate by decorating their homes in patriotic themes, according to event organizers Diane Pease and Marilyn Gorman, members of the town's historical society.

Stops on the tour include the North New Portland Community Church, the former homes of historic residents, a former church in East New Portland, the Fernwood Grange, the Chase-Hewitt Mill with its waterwheel on the Carrabassett River, the new community library, town office and fire station, Nan Berry's farm on Chick Road and Nowetah's Indian Store and Museum.
