Tri-Town Rescue announces reorganization

,
Saturday, June 21, 2008

WEST PARIS - The attorney for Tri-Town Rescue Service Board of Directors said Friday that a major reorganization of the service, including the removal of Chief Norman St. Pierre, will pave the way for a viable ambulance service.

"There have been dark days for the Tri-Town. But the board has really made an effort to make Tri-Town a viable provider," said attorney Kenneth J. Albert III of Lewiston, who represents the Board of Directors.

Staff at the ambulance service, which is based in West Paris and serves five towns, were informed at a meeting Thursday night that St. Pierre, of West Paris, has been removed as rescue chief and the Board of Directors will be adopting new bylaws that will allow interested town residents to be appointed to the board.

St. Pierre could not be reached for comment Friday, but said earlier this week that he expected to be replaced by the board.

Longtime paramedic Allison Ross was named interim service director this week, Albert said. She resides in Bridgton.

The service director will be responsible or management and operations of the day-to-day affairs of the corporation subject to the oversight of the Board of Directors, he said.

The appointments are expected to be made by the Boards of Selectmen in the towns that use the service. Albert said the current representatives may end up being on the board again. They will represent West Paris, Sumner, Greenwood, Woodstock and Milton Plantation.

Albert said his sense of Thursday night's meeting with the staff was there was a "rallying" support for the reorganization plan.

Albert said the reorganization has been a long time in the works after concern rose over friction on the board.

Although Tri-Town is a private nonprofit corporation organized under Maine laws and has no statutory public access requirements as municipalities and government bodies do, the local towns pay a "modest" percentage of Tri-Town's total income and the towns naturally want good medical emergency service for their residents, Albert said.

Because of this, Albert said the towns and Tri-Town work closely together. The new plan was presented to not only the staff but to the town managers at Thursday's night's meeting and town officials are reviewing the plan.

Albert said he does not believe allegations made by St. Pierre earlier this week to the Sun Journal against board Chairman Dorene Wilbur that she allegedly misused Tri-Town Rescue money set aside to buy rescue equipment to instead hire a lawyer to redraft the service bylaws. She lives in the West Paris area.

"I continue to believe these allegations are false," Albert said. "No one believes she is capable after her 20 plus years or would advocate for any financial wrongdoing."

the attorney and the board at tri town have again managed to make themselves look good even though they are the wolves in sheeps the clothing. the only "rallying" that took place to my understanding was in an attempt to keep st.pierre as chief and get rid of the board. i hope some sort of investigation coes of this because the board is a conflict of interest. how can it represent the members and the towns at the same time?

it is my understanding that this has been a witch hunt to get rid of st. pierre for a while, and they blew a bunch of equipment money to pay the attorney to be their patsy!! i hope the residents insist on an investigation. the only reason the towns still have ems coverage is because the employees aren't morally bankrupt, unlike the board of directors. hopefully st. pierre can get the knife out of his back.

I am not involved in any aspect of what events have transpired at TTR, however I find that the comments made about Allison Ross to be completely inflammatory in nature and unneeded. I have personally worked with Allison, and as a NREMT-P myself, I can personally attest that she is an outstanding paramedic who provides quality, compassionate care to her patients, with almost 10 years of total EMS experience! If I had a family member that needed an ambulance, there is no doubt that I would feel at ease knowing that Allison was taking care of them. There are obviously service related politics that are taking place, and I truly hope that they get resolved to the satisfaction of all parties involved. I do not feel it is at all beneficial to anyone to write defamatory comments about Allison's ability to provide patient care. Keep the politics where they belong, out of patient care. Best of luck to all TTR employees, I wish you all the best in these tough times.

No surprise here...the meeting on Thursday has exacerbated many resentments toward Tri-Town Rescue's Board of Directors and their decision to fire St. Pierre. I agree that Norm is a spectacular guy; that he would willingly take action to help any of his friends or crew members if they were in need or wanting assistance. It is truly unfortunate to see someone, who obviously takes pride in serving his community, asked to leave a position in which he was capable of doing much good. Unfortunately, politics have forced this into submission, and there is no doubt that he will be missed by all who worked under him. It is extremely rude however, to make degrading and inflammatory remarks toward or about a person who has offered to accept the board's invitation to temporarily lead the members of Tri-Town rescue. Allison Ross may be a fairly 'new' paramedic; I don't know. I do know that I have worked with her on the ambulance, and befriended her outside of the EMS profession, and I can see no reason why she shouldn't be able to perform well in this position for the interim. It's not easy to make a decision which will add another time-consuming entity to the already busy life of a mother, wife and career-driven woman. I'm sure that Allison did not accept this challenge without first considering the pros and cons. Perhaps instead of criticizing her character and her physique (which is an ignorantly low blow and has absolutely nothing to do with her abilities as a medic or interim chief, 'tell it like it is'), one should look at the potential positives that this change could affect for the service. Instead of being completely close-minded, those involved could try to offer some support throughout the process. Working for this company is not about working for one specific person, or at least it shouldn't be. The employees agreed on Thursday that they were all there to serve the people of the community, which is why most of them didn't walk out the door in the middle of the meeting. One can speculate the reason for Norm's termination without ever finding out the exact reason, but it won't change the outcome. I hope that those involved can be inspired to look for the good and not dwell on the bad. I also hope that some can overlook their personal differences and maintain a semblance of professionalism in an environment where trust and dependability of crew-mates is so important. Just some food for thought.

well stated switzerland. my problem isn't with allison, it is with the board. im sure allison is more than competent, and it isnt her fault this took place. she has stepped into a position that i wouldn't wish to be in for any reason. i feel she will be supported, but so will norm st. pierre and i dont think this is over yet. at least i hope not.

First off, Why all the slander against Allison Ross???? She stepped up to the plate into a position when, from the sound of things, others would NEVER want to take. Obviously those who have been stooping so low as to the point of being malicious towards Allison Ross have NEVER worked with her. If they had, they would know what an amazing and charismatic person she truly is. I have had the priviledge of working with her at a couple services as well as be friends with her outside of work. Ali is one of the most knowledgable, level headed, compassionate, competent Medics I have ever worked with! Personally, I would rest easy if I knew Ali was taking care of one of my friends or family members since they would be getting the highest quality of care. Although she may have had her medic for "3 years barely", she has at least 10 years of EMS experience under her belt! Last time I checked 10 years is more than an adequate amount of experience time. Knowing Ali as well as I do, the decision for her to step up to the plate like she did, was not likely an easy decision. She is balancing her home life, being a mother, and her career,on top of taking this new position. Had Ali decided to not take this position, the board would have simply continued down the list of Tritown employees until they found someone else with enough balls to say yes. Instead of using this to blog a viscious attack against Ali as a means to satisfy your own sick, twisted, vendetta why not do some of us a favor, stuff your personal vendetta in places I'm too polite to say (but im sure you're smart enough to figure out where) and just stick to the REAL ISSUE at hand. I apologize to everyone else who may be offended by my telling that person to stick their vendetta where the sun doesnt shine, but like many others, I am sick and tired of people using these blogs as means to degrade other people and try to fulfill personal vendettas.

Secondly, as an employee of Tritown rescue Im just as disgusted with things the board has done or better yet lack there of. But, I do remain hopeful that the board will from this point forward, start making the most appropriate decisions in doing what is best for our service and the communities we serve. I can be confident in saying that the members/employees of Tritown Rescue strive to provide the utmost care to the people of the communities it serves. It is the pride that we take in the care we give and the compassion for our communities that kept all of us from walking out and never looking back that night, not the lack of love or support for Norm. The employees of Tritown gave the board a rather large reality check at thurs nights meeting. The employees made it perfectly clear to the board that if we feel that the board is not doing what is best for our service or the communities we serve, we will walk. We made it known to the board that if we feel the board is hindering us from doing our jobs to the best of our abilities, we will walk. If needed, we will respond to calls in our own personal vehicles. We made it known to the board that the employees of Tritown Rescue are here for the people of communities we serve and will not tolerate any of their ingnorance, lying, sneaky, deceitful behavior and we will take action when deamed necessary. Trust me, the board knows the consequences if they don't change their ways and are scared of those consequences. However, a drastic change like this is going to require A LOT of PATIENCE & ANGER MANAGEMENT on the part of all of us. All we can do right now, as hard as it may be, is to try to have faith (no matter how little that may be) in the board and continue doing what we love to do, providingEMS care to the people of the communities we serve

JUST TO SET THINGS STRAIGHT...I too work with allison at her main employer and I did not write these derogatory comments about her, My laptop was left logged on and someone in an apparent attempt to be funny posted multiple derogatory comments on several subjects in the sunjournal, so my apologies to allison and to Tri_town I am not affiliated with tri town in any way and had no reason to post here on this subject I will also make an attempt to find out who did this and will also ensure I make a better effort to log off my computer when it is left unattended in a general living area

Like you, tell it like it is, I also work with Ali at her main employer. Im now wondering if your now backpedaling do to all the support that Ali has. Im wondering about this because 1)There are only 3 people at that employer with laptops, 2 of which are Ali & her husband... 2)If you work at the main employer, you would know as well as the rest of us that you dont have an internet signal on your laptop at that base. 3) No one at that other service would write anything as slanderous as what was written about Ali. I know I previously wrote that it'd be nice for people to stick to the issue at hand and Im contradicting myself with this blog, but Im going to say something when I feel people are lying to try to cover themselves for something they did with no one to blame but themselves.
