Man accused of choking woman

JAY - A Jay man is accused of choking a female acquaintance and knocking her to the ground Friday night before he grabbed a gun from his vehicle, stuck it in his pocket, and forced the woman into a house, police said.
Jimmy W. Aplin, 38, appeared in a Farmington court Monday on misdemeanor charges of threatening display of a weapon, criminal restraint and domestic assault, police Chief Larry White Sr. said.
Aplin was initially held on $5,000 cash bail, White said, but it was reduced to $500 cash during his court appearance.
White said Aplin is accused of holding the woman in a home on Belmont Drive for about an hour before she was allowed to leave. She called police about 7:19 p.m.
Aplin also left the house and police initially could not locate his vehicle, the chief said.
Officer Steve Wilkinson and Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier continued to check the house and Aplin's vehicle returned there, White said.
Wilton police officers responded to provide backup.
Contact was made with Aplin and police tried to get him to come out of the house, White said.
A short standoff took place with no threat to police, White said.
Eventually Aplin was talked out to the porch where he was arrested. He didn't have a handgun with him.
The fully loaded gun was found in the house near where Aplin left, White said. Aplin remained at Franklin County jail Monday afternoon. |

Posted By:tired of maine's systems at July 1, 2008 7:52 AM (Suggest Removal) For the same reason they allow a woman who cut a man open from temple to throat to walk the streets. On "probation until trial" but able to hit the bars, buy & sell drugs and have custody of her child. The state loves these kind of people. Forget normal law abiding citizens - the state would rather have us leave than protect us from whack jobs like this.

Posted By:JC at July 1, 2008 9:25 AM (Suggest Removal) Unfortunately it's not just Maine's criminal justice system that is so messed up. It's like that all around the country. Most LEO's will tell you how frustrated they are, because the criminals seem to have more rights than the victims. It's one thing to be presumed inocent until proven guilty. It's another thing to let violet abusers off easy, especially when they are apt to go out and do it again. The system is deffinately screwed up.
