Details for the rip-roaring smash-bang Fourth of July celebration in Turner are completed and it is evident that the town will see the biggest event in its history aside from the centennial 25 years ago. Hundreds of people are expected to be present from Buckfield, Leeds Greene, Livermore, Auburn and Lewiston. As neither Auburn nor Lewiston holds a celebration this year, they will make Turner's celebration theirs. Their Fourth of July artists will help increase the attractions and their people will swell the crowd.

Room rates at the Central Maine General Hospital were increased $2 a day per bed yesterday, according to an announcement by Dana S. Thompson, hospital administrator. Under the new price list, rates will range from $15 per day for beds in four-bed rooms to a top of $26 a day for the special private room.

Thompson also announced that all full-time hospital employees presently earning $38 a week or less will receive $2 weekly wage increases. The increase will first be paid July 18. Some undisclosed wage increases also were granted staff registered nurses involved in the care of patients. Thompson said hospital officials voted the room rate boost "with reluctance."

• The Montagnard Band of Lewiston left yesterday for Quebec Province. It will present two concerts at Magog and Sherbrooke, Quebec, and return home tonight.

The Worthley Pond Sunshine Circle will hold a sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the farm of Mrs. Annabelle Walker, Peru. The sale features crafts, quilts, rummage and a variety of foods.

• U.S. Rep. Olympia Snowe will be interviewed Sunday morning on ABC Television's "This Week with David Brinkley." Maine's Second District Republican congresswoman will appear on a segment of the program titled "Women in Politics" and will discuss the recent emergence of women as a political force in the United States. The program is aired at 11:30 a.m.
