Woodstock tax commitment ready

,
Monday, July 7, 2008

WOODSTOCK - Town Manager Vern Maxfield told selectmen last week that the 2008 tax commitment will be ready for their review and approval at their next meeting July 15.

"It looks like the tax rate for this year will be around $13 per $1,000 of valuation," Maxfield said.

He then added, "Our tax rate for 2007 was $12.65 per thousand and we may be able to hold to an increase of 30 cents this year and certainly not more than $13. So the most increase we will see will not exceed 35 cents."

Selectmen indicated they would be pleased with a small increase and would be ready to look over and consider Maxfield's recommendation on July 15.

In other business, Maxfield reported that the summer paving program is complete and the cost has come in well within budget at $178,000.

The paving was done by Pine Tree Paving of Norway and Maxfield and the highway crew members were pleased with the job that was done.

Finally the selectmen learned from Maxfield that a buyer was found for several old culverts that have been stored at the town garage. The price received came to $260 and was paid by West Paris Metals of West Paris.

Asked where the money is going Maxfield stated that he has already deposited it in the town's equipment account.

The board was pleased with the sale because in the past the town has had to pay to get rid of old culverts rather than being able to sell them.
