Brass quintet to open Old Home Days

Saturday, July 12, 2008

LOVELL - Lovell Old Home Days will kick off this year with a rousing concert by the Blue Hill Brass Quintet Thursday, July 17, at the Brick Church for the Performing Arts.

Featured last year at the Fryeburg Fair, the quintet has delighted audiences for decades at such events as the Eastern States Exposition, the Maine Festival, harvest fairs and the Yarmouth Clam Festival. It is also heard on Maine Public Radio.

Members of the group are accomplished in many different modes and have played with ensembles, including the Portland Symphony Orchestra, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, the Al Corey Orchestra and the Maine Chamber Ensemble. The players are Curt Brossmer and Allen Graffam, trumpet; Scott Burditt, French horn; Steve Norris, trombone; and Paul Greenstone, tuba. Brossmer and Burditt serve as principals on their instruments with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra.

With a repertoire covering five centuries, the quintet is known both for musical excellence and family-pleasing entertainment.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children or $25 for families. They will be available at the door. For more information, call 925-2792.
