Music by MAGIC to perform Monday
Monday, July 14, 2008
POLAND - Music by MAGIC, a vocal and instrumental group specializing in easy-listening standards from the 1930s through the '70s, will perform Monday, July 14, at All Souls Chapel.
Its members have a long history of musical performances in central Maine. As a young percussionist, Conrad Soucy played in local rock bands in the 1960s and '70s. More than 30 years later, he now is the drummer for several area big band groups. Joanne Fuller first sang in a folk/folk-rock group known as Chord Majority; and between 1970 and 1980, she also performed with other professional groups.
As co-founders and directors of the MAGIC Pops Chorus and later MAGIC & Company, Diane J. Biron and Roland M. Roy entertained audiences in Lewiston-Auburn and surrounding communities during the entire 1990s decade and later. During that time, they produced theatrical musical shows, created holiday programs, sang for benefits and did cabaret-style shows in local restaurants.
In 2000, they joined the board of directors of the Poland Spring Preservation Society and served as coordinators and co-hosts of the society's Summer Concert Series until 2006.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door. Proceeds benefit the preservation of the Maine State Building and All Souls Chapel, both listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. For more information, call 998-4142 or log on to www.polandspringps.org. |
