Habitat golf tourney set for September 19

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity will have its fourth annual golf tournament on Friday, Sept. 19 at the Springbrook Golf Club in Leeds.

Event co-chairs Deb Leonard and Cheryl Black said sponsors are needed. The tournament, which is the organization's largest annual fundraiser, last year raised more than $10,000 for use in building a home on Golder Road in Lewiston.

Deb Leonard said prospective sponsors or player teams can sign up by calling her at 777-7070 or visiting www.androhforh.org to download a form that has detailed information.

Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity has built 14 homes in the Lewiston-Auburn area over the past 19 years.

Volunteers are expected to begin work on the next AHFH home this summer. A family selection team is narrowing a list of applicants to purchase the home. Families are selected on the basis of need for adequate, affordable housing, ability to repay an interest-free mortgage, and willingness to participate in the construction.
