Two men face drug charges

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

JAY - Two men are scheduled to appear in September at Farmington District Court to face misdemeanor drug charges after about 20 growing marijuana plants and three-quarters of a pound of processed marijuana were discovered by police.

Douglas Lake, 49, of Jay was arrested on a charge of trafficking in a schedule Z drug and Randall Lake, 46, of Wilton was issued a summons on a charge of cultivation of marijuana Friday, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Monday.

Police had been investigating some information and located plants about 11 a.m. Friday and the investigation continued into late evening, he said.

There was a trail that led from Douglas Lake's residence at 23 Rocky Road, which is off Route 17, to the plants growing on an adjoining property, unbeknownst to the land owner, who owns many acres in the area, White said.

If the plants had reached maturity, it is estimated they would have a potential street value of $40,000, he said.

A search warrant was executed at Lake's residence where police say they found drug paraphernalia and scales, along with the processed marijuana estimated at $2,000 in value, White said.

Seized from the residence was $2,000 in cash and an all-terrain vehicle that was used during the cultivation of the plants, White said.

Douglas Lake was transported to the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington and was released on $3,000 unsecured bail Friday.

Both men are scheduled to appear on Sept. 18 in the district court in Farmington.

Leading up the investigation is Jay police Detective Drew Hufnagel who was assisted at the scene by officers Michael Mejia, Brad Timberlake and Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier.

Attempts to reach the Lakes were unsuccessful Monday.

Lock them up. Give them a hefty fine and confiscate their personal property. Make them wish that they didn't even know how to spell pot!

Hmm gee how smart are we. Plant pot plants on someone elses property right next to my own and I won't get caught. Hmm police helicopters are constantly flying over franklin county searching for pot plants. I agree with Kate. That's not a "big case". But I guess for the little town of Jay it is. I also agree with E take there personal possessions to help pay for there stay in jail hopefully prison. They'll earn it back in 6 months anyway selling drugs.

It'd be nice to see them get the heroin and crack dealers off the streets!

I think Kate has something agaist the police, she seems to slam the police but talks up the county patrol, I think you have a personal issue with them Kate.I also think the police are doing a great job and am sure they are dealing with the other issues they cannot put all in the paper as sometimes they use the person charged as an inforamant. They do some good work and get dumped on my Kate wow!

This season is over for them, but in Farmington they can cop a plea and get ready for next year. Kinda like the Red Sox.
