Drinking party probe continues

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

MINOT - An investigation continued Tuesday into a weekend party on Woodman Hill Road that led to the arrests of three people and 31 more who were summoned.

Androscoggin County Sheriff's deputies spent part of the day referring some of the juvenile suspects to a program that could help them avoid court action by attending education classes instead.

Police said there were roughly 75 people at the house at 38 Woodman Hill Road on Friday night with a supply of liquor, beer and drugs. When the house was raided, police arrested two men and a woman and began issuing summonses.

Nobody was hurt during the bust, although one teenager who fled into the woods later required hospital treatment for an allergic reaction to poison ivy.

On Tuesday, investigators released the names of the 19 adults who were summoned at the party on charges of consumption of alcohol by persons who are underage. They are:

• Zachary Kimball, 19, of Mechanic Falls;

• Lucas Bartlett, 18, of Mechanic Falls;

• John Parker, 18, of Norway;

• Shawn Briggs, 20-years-old the night of the party, of Sabattus;

• Stephanie Baril, 18, of Poland;

• Zachary Bisbee, 18, of Poland;

• Heather Foss, 18, of Minot;

• Emily Spence, 18, of Poland;

• Michael Cuneen, 18, of Livermore Falls;

• Jonathan Lecznar, 19, of Poland;

• Andrew Labbe, 20, of Poland;

• Corey Goodell, 19, of Poland;

• Brent Cary, 20, of Livermore Falls;

• Jamison Howe, 19, of Poland;

• Jason Lehr, 20, of Raymond;

• John McVane, 19, of Mechanic Falls;

• Kathleen Simpson, 20, of Minot;

• Jason DePalma, 20, of Auburn.

Arrested on charges of disorderly conduct the night of the party were Thomas Harrison, 20, of Minot, and Brandon Brown, 20, of Poland. Kristen Simpson, 19, who lives at the home, was charged with providing a place for minors to drink and was summoned on charges of possession of marijuana and sale or use of paraphernalia.

The juveniles charged have not been named. They have been given the option of going to classes through the juvenile diversion program offered through Healthy Androscoggin, according to Deputy Dan Vachon, one of the organizers of the investigation.

Vachon said the investigation is continuing this week and that more charges are possible.

There wern't 75 people there. 31 got tickets, and about 4 didn't because we were of age. So I would say there were about 35 people there. Don't exagerate the report.

The sun journal acts like this is the first teenager party to get busted.

The problem Z, is that you are an adult who drinks with children. So even if you're telling the truth, nobody's going to believe you. Party with people your own age!

And Heather, it's a well known fact in journalism that people like to read about other people getting in trouble. So, when you do something illegal, you never know if this is the time that you're going to be held up to public ridicule. Just another element of danger to add to your fun.

Teenagers don't think like adults. I think they take a story like this as bragging rights not ridicule. We read about these same people yesterday why two days in a row? Redundant, nugatory and insipid reporting.

wow, you all did it too when you were there age, let them go to an education course and avoid getting a criminal record. these are just kids like we all were. the make mistakes, they need to be punished but not for life. the parents also need to be brought in on an education as well though. people dont act like you were saints, lets teach these kids the dangers and move on.

Oh no another teenage drinking party. Yeah, not a good idea, but who ever bought the booze was sure stupid to get it. Lesson learned, especially getting poison ivy while trying to run. Now thats classic, and a good story to tell the grandkids. I think thats punishment enough.

V, a lot of young people do go to parties underage, but only a few special adults ever consider furnishing the booze.

So I've read all of the comments and well you all have very valuable points, however as someone who was at the party that night, none of you will ever know why we all drank that night or why kids did the things they did that night. Most of you said yesterday that the parents should get us all babysitters, but were 18, legally were adults and we know what were doing is wrong. But like all of you, you were at our age once, and most likely did the things we do today. It’s not about how we were brought up or the friends we hang out with, it all has to do with what kind of person we want to portray. However I’m going to state that I’m glad we got caught, cause what happened Friday night really opened my eyes for the first time and I’ve realized that I don’t want to be the person I was Friday night. Unfortunately it took me this long to figure it out and in the manner it happened in. I just wish there was some other way to pay the punishment than having this go on our records.

You said it, lesson learned. You got it on your record because you were that kind of person. But you'll be surprised, time goes by fast. When you're 25, someone will see this on your record and understand that you were young. They'll look at what you have done since, and judge you on how you have changed. You'll do fine!

We all make mistakes, I just hope that everyone that was wrong like Smiley admitted to also admits to it. Unfortunetly, like mentioned previous, some will brag and thinks it's funny. Even the parents will....which is a sad case all by itself.

"Redundant, nugatory and insipid reporting." Um, What? Heather C: there's this funny thing called a dictionary...it's related to a thesaurus. Ever heard of one?

tax money, if you would have taken the time to read the article that was in yesterday's paper about this party, you would have seen that the money came from a grant, not from tax payers money. So before you start spouting off about using tax payers money, how about you read the entire story, not just the parts you want to know???

hey danial, where do you think that grant money came from? the money tree? really? are you that dumb? the grant money from the state that the lewiston police department got was our TAXMONEY. god some people are so dumb

Perhaps Danial should change the name to "denial"... Tax money well spent is in fact correct on this one.

"The problem Z, is that you are an adult who drinks with children. So even if you're telling the truth, nobody's going to believe you. Party with people your own age!" I walked in, took a look around, said "hey the cops are right up the road" and walked back out the door, meeting the cops in the driveway. You dont know whos there untill you get there. Bad timing I guess.

When I was in high school, and the cops showed up, it was always "If I see any cars leaving this driveway I'm pulling you over". I dont think one person in my graduating class ever got a ticket for underage drinking, and we drank every weekend.
