Five face charges after Jay drinking party

JAY - Five people from Franklin County face charges after police raided an underage drinking party at an apartment early Tuesday at 25 Church St.

Police started a foot patrol in the area of Church and Jewell streets after people complained of loud and disorderly teenagers in late evening and early morning, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Tuesday.

Officer Mike Mejia was on patrol on foot late Monday and heard and observed a loud party at the Church Street house.

Mejia saw Josh Jalbert, 20, of 25 Church St., come out of the house with a teenage girl, White said.

"The officer heard the female yell we're going to get more beer," White said. Mejia then approached the couple and detected they had been drinking alcohol.

After speaking with them, he determined there were more juveniles at an apartment in the house consuming alcohol. None of the partiers was 21 years of age, he said.

Jalbert was arrested early Tuesday on a charge of providing a place for minors to consume alcohol and issued a summons on a civil violation of possession of alcohol by a minor. He was taken to Franklin County jail in Farmington and released on $1,500 unsecured bail that morning.

The 15-year-old Farmington girl who left the apartment with Jalbert was issued a summons for providing alcohol to minors and a juvenile summons on a possession of alcohol by a juvenile, White said.

Troy McCormick, 19, of Wilton, was issued a civil summons charging possession of alcohol by a minor. McCormick and Jalbert are scheduled to appear in Farmington District Court on Oct. 30.

A 15-year-old Wilton girl and a 17-year-old New Sharon boy were both issued juvenile summonses for possession of alcohol by a juvenile, White said.

The youths are scheduled to appear Sept. 17 in Juvenile Court in Farmington.

More teenagers acting like teenagers and engaging in risky behaviors. That means the adults around them need to respond as adults. Glad this was discovered and the young people involved made to take the consequences. Hope the word gets around.

It must have been truly scary for the 20 year old to have to spend the night behind bars. I would assume (??) that is a lesson learned?!

Ya, good call, lets scream out on the street "we're going to get more beer"! Maybe it is teenagers being teenagers but whats a 20yr old doing, hanging out with a 15 yr old?? Yes, it could have gotten worse for sure. This is like a dumb criminal getting caught on tape, only its real. Obviously the parents were off drinking too cuz who would let there 15 yr old hang out with a 20 yrs old? Maybe they were related but likely not.

It's to bad the headline had to use the good name of the Town of Jay, when it appears people there did not come from Jay.

This is why there so many registered young sex offenders, 20 year olds hanging out with 15 year old girls. Parents need to be the parent instead of their buddy. Do what is right not what is easy. How in the world are kids going to know how to act in an adult world if their parents cop out to a rude teenager?

Im concerned that parents want to blame the police and anyone else that comes along. They should be concerned that thier child was at a drinking party! They could end up dead! As for the town of Jay lets not kid ourselfs its in every city and town at least the Town of Jay and the ASO( Sheriffs) are trying to do something about it! Kudos to all police officers that will stand up and do something about it!

The Sun-Journal could invest in some better writers...their grammar isn't what it should be.
