RUMFORD - A Sears store is coming.

Brian Dunton said he plans to open and authorized Sears appliance store at River Valley Crossing Shopping Center in mid-September.

The store will feature appliances, electronics, televisions, lawn tractors and other goods.

A 10-year lease was signed with WRE Commercial Brokers of the Portland area, he said.

The Wilton man also owns the Sears appliance dealership in the Mount Blue Shopping Center in Farmington.

"People from the Rumford area go to the Farmington store, and Sears wanted to open a store here," he said late Wednesday morning.

Diane Paterson will manage the store and four part-time employees. Dunton said some of those part-time positions may grow into full-time.

The store will occupy about 6,000 square feet of former supermarket space. Contractor Bill Porter has been renovating the store front.

With the addition of the Sears at the former Ames Department Store shopping plaza, only one vacancy remains there.

Sears joins Marden's, Dollar Tree, and Olympia Sports at the Route 2 site.

A grand opening is planned for October.
