DIXFIELD - A mostly sunny forecast for Sunday is bringing vendors out in droves for Dixfield's annual Main Street Outdoor Market. Still, there's a few more spaces available, according to Outdoor Market Committee member and Selectwoman Norine Clarke.

"Supposedly, it's going to be a good day with no rain in the forecast," Clarke said Thursday afternoon.

Always held on the third Sunday in August, the event, which resembles a large block party, is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Three exceptions are an antiques road show and judging of flower entries, both on Saturday, and running races held early Sunday morning.

The annual flower show will be held Sunday.

Committee member Paul Jones will conduct a 1-mile fun run and a 5-kilometer race, both of which are lumped under one name: the 5th annual Bicentennial Market Road Race.

Interested racers should check with Jones at 562-7272 for registration and starting times. Jones is also seeking volunteers.

Clarke said this year's market will stretch from Bangor Savings Bank to Old Chapel Antiques, which is just beyond the Dixfield Historical Society.

The flea-market style event will offer handcrafted items, novelties, military memorabilia, handwoven baskets, collectibles, foods and more.

The King Hiram Masonic Lodge will hold a chicken barbecue at noon behind the Dixfield fire station.

From 2 to 4 p.m., vocalist Sammie Angel will sing at the town gazebo.

New is a "Cram the Van" charitable event conducted by the Dixfield Common Baptist Church. Clarke said the church provides a food bank for Dixfield, East Dixfield and Carthage and will collect nonperishable food items and cash donations. The van will be parked at The Corner Store at Main and Weld streets.

To reserve the remaining 10- by 15-foot vendor booths, people should contact either Ralph or Norine Clarke at their Log Cabin Craftworks from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at 562-8816.
