Rangeley theater will stage 'Into the Woods'
Monday, August 18, 2008
RANGELEY - Rangeley Friends of the Arts will present "Into the Woods," an award-winning play with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Aug. 21-24 at Lakeside Theater.
"Into the Woods" debuted in San Diego in 1986. Bernadette Peters' performance as the Witch and Joanna Gleason's portrayal of the Baker's Wife brought acclaim to the production during its original Broadway run.
"Into the Woods" won several Tony Awards, including Best Score, Best Book and Best Actress in a Musical.
The main characters are taken from the stories of "Little Red Riding Hood," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Rapunzel" and "Cinderella" - tied together by a more original story involving a baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family, most likely taken from the original story of Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm. It also includes references to several other well-known tales.
Performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available at the Rangeley Region Chamber of Commerce, toll free 1-800-MT-LAKES; e-mail info@rangeleymaine.com; or log on to www.rangeleymaine.com. |
