Mass. man dies in boating mishap

DAVIS TOWNSHIP - An 81-year-old Massachusetts man died after he was swept by a wave into the waters of Kennebago Lake on Wednesday.
The man and a friend were attempting to bring their 16-foot Rangeley boat parallel to shore when a wind-driven wave swept the man out of the boat and into rough water, according to Sgt. John Blagdon of the Maine Warden Service.
A Rangeley boat is a small canoe-shaped rowboat, often used for fishing.
The accident occurred at about 11 a.m. on the lake, part of the Rangeley Lakes chain and the headwaters of the Kennebago River. The area is in a remote portion of northern Franklin County about seven miles north of the town of Rangeley.
The name of the victim was not being released by the Warden Service pending notification of next of kin. |
