Teen charged in Legion burglary

LIVERMORE FALLS - A 15-year-old Livermore boy has been charged in connection with a break-in at the American Legion Post 10 hall in early August.

Lt. Thomas Gould issued a summons to the boy on Monday on charges of burglary and theft, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Wednesday.

The teen was released to his parents' custody with the case to be forwarded to the juvenile system.

A side door was pried open after the hall closed on Saturday, Aug. 2, then locked doors were broken inside. A Legion member noticed the burglary on Wednesday, Aug. 6.

About $440 worth of items were taken, including $165 worth of alcohol and $98 in Pepsi products as well as a mini-refrigerator.

Gould recovered about 25 percent of the soda and the refrigerator at a Knapp Street residence the same day it was reported stolen.

The recovered items were worth $180. Restitution of $258 is being requested, Steward said.

It would be my suggestion that a stupid fine of %258 will not be a fair charge. A boy of 15 needs parents or relatives that will get his ass straightened out with other types of punishments - not go back to the apparent non-caring non-supervisory life he is now evidently enjoying. I don't care what the family life is; I only know that this kid will be a thug even before he is 18 and needs help, NOW.
