Wilton man charged with assaulting infant

,
Wednesday, August 27, 2008

FARMINGTON - A Wilton man was arrested Friday on a felony charge of aggravated assault involving a 7-month-old baby.

Mattheau S. Soha, 21, is being held on $10,000 cash bail at the Franklin County Detention Center after making an appearance in court Monday.

A physician at Franklin Memorial Hospital called police Lt. Richard Caton around 8 p.m. Aug. 20 after a 7-month-old boy was brought to the emergency room with severe head bruising, according to a Wilton Police Department statement. The child's torso was also bruised.

The mother told the hospital staff that the child was dropped, striking a doorway, but the doctor was suspicious because the injuries were not consistent with a fall of not more than 18 inches, police said.

The mother of the baby had left the child in her boyfriend Soha's care and told police that after she returned home from work, he told her he was walking the baby and dropped the child, causing the injuries. She said he told her it was an accident.

Doctors believed the injuries were not the result of an accident but were caused by blunt force trauma, the court record states.

Following an intensive search involving eight Wilton officers, Soha surrendered late Friday and was arrested by Caton on an outstanding probation violation then charged with felony aggravated assault. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 13.

The child was released from the hospital late Friday evening.

Hopefully the child was not released to the mother if she lied for her boyfriend. Hopefully he gets what he dished out to a helpless infant while he is in jail.

she didnt lie for her boyfriend. She is a good mom. She just made a big mistake leaving her baby with soha. If you dont know what happened you shouldnt judge her. Go ahead and judge soha all you want. he is scum!

The lying mother and Soha should receive the same treatment that Soha gave the child. What is she doing lying for Soha. What a bunch of losers. They should remove that baby permanently. Losers indeed

Please don't judge if you don't know. This story did not say the mother lied...it stated she told the hospital what her boyfriend told her. Thankfully, the hospital was able to determine that the story did not fit the injuries. Also, please remember that having children is a huge responsibility...and some people don't have the capacity to grasp that responsibility.

I recall when the Soha'a lived in Chishom some years ago they where nothing but trouble then and both brother still are today. The mother of these two covered for them then and I bet still does now. All losers! Sorry Rose but you are wrong on this one!

Does anyone besides me wonder what the hell is going on in this state, there have been several of these incidents over the past year, the woman in harrison who lied and had actually drowned her baby in the bath tub, the man who suffocated his 9 week old daughter last week, and many others, what is this world coming too??????

Ok, seriously do you people read the whole comment before you post. The point most of us are trying to get across it that the mother did not lie for her boyfriend, she told the Dr's what the boyfriend told her, she was not there when it happened so that is all she had to go by. I also did not get from Rose's post that she was implying the soha's were good people. I know the mother and she is a great mom, who made a mistake by leaving her child with someone she thought she could trust. She is very upset about this and you should all be ashamed of yourselves for assuming you know what happened.

i want to start off by saying that i am very good friends with both parties involved in this matter...the mother is a wonderful mother and her boyfriend is a really good guy...as for all of you saying she " stuck up for" " or "Lied" for matt that is total bull**** it was definatly an accident so no one is lying for anyone...for all of you that think you know what happened you have no idea..so keep your opinions to yourself.... F*cc all you that think tha Soha's are nothing but losers cause that deff. isnt tha case here i love how people in this town can talk shit bout other people and they should try lookin in a mirror before anyone can judge someone else....

ok I looked in the mirror and nothing like this is in my past so I guess I can pass judgement. He doesnt seem like a upstanding young man to me since he also has an outstanding violation to boot. If the mom is telling the truth then she needs to get out and get that baby to safety so it can grow up without being in the police blotter in years to come.

My name is Roger I live downstairs from where this supposedly happened. I read a comment about the Soha's and before I met Matt I would have agreed. I told my fiance when I first saw him here that I thought he was trouble. He has done nothing but prove me wrong. I have had several conversations with Matt prior to this incident and a couple after. I was also home when it happened and know that Matt didn't do anything to intentionally hurt this child. The step Matt tripped on while holding the infant has since been replaced by the landlord. They actually had to replace the subfloor underneath because that was also rotted. Matt has had a rough past and maybe not the best upbringing in the world but he has certainly grown into a respectful young man. I was as ignorant as the person from chisolm and it's hard to change my mind but Matt's a good person that did nothing but love that young child. Matt and I actually had a conversation about children. I told him I wanted a boy (I have a baby girl now). He told me how he wanted a boy and a girl but was happy with the fact that the mother had a boy and planned on raising him like he was his. How many young men his age do you know that are willing to raise a child that is not theirs like it was their own? Trust me if I thought he intentionally hurt this child I wouldn't be on his side. This is the case of a judgemental doctor who I understand was trying to do his job but he failed miserably and may have ruined a young man's life because of it. I am as honest as the day is long and anyone who knows me will tell you that. I was questioned by police who didn't want to hear anything good I said about Matt they only tried to make me say bad things which I have none to say. I can't swear on here or I'd tell you how I really feel about the police, dhs, and the doctor involve in this investigation.

In my previous comment I failed to mention that I can hear what goes on upstairs very clearly through their floor/my ceiling. I have never heard Matt raise his voice or any noises that might have been suspicious. The only interactions I have heard from Matt and the child was Matt talking in baby talk and the infant laughing.
