Forty barrels, about half a dozen kegs and one 5-gallon jug, all containing cider, were seized Saturday at the home of Louis E. Laflamme on Lincoln Street, Lewiston. The raid, which was the largest in this vicinity for a long time, was made by the Sturgis deputies. About 11:30 o'clock, Deputies Beaulieu and Howard went to Laflamme's place and found Mrs. Laflamme selling a glass of cider. They say they saw the money pass.

A search of the premises followed. In the cellar were found the large amount of cider as stated. Most of it is old, but a small quantity of it is new, say the deputies. Over 1,300 gallons were seized.

Lewiston funeral director Roland Fortin was elected president of the Musical Literary Club at its annual meeting Wednesday. Other officers are Bertrand Marquis, vice president; Andre Chabot, secretary; Paul Levesque, treasurer; and William Provencher, Dominic Bilodeau and Lionel St. Pierre, directors. They will be installed at a meeting on Oct.1.

• Lewiston Police Officer, Robert E. Cloutier of 365 Main St. answered a knock at his front door early Thursday morning and found a puppy - all alone. How it got there is a mystery, nobody was in sight. The Cloutier family fed the animal, then had the police department pick it up for delivery to a local kennel.

Kay Morin will be hostess for the first meeting of the season for the Lewiston-Auburn Kiwaniannes at her camp on No Name Pond at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Members should meet at Cottle's Food Center on Sabattus Street in Lewiston at 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot to proceed to the camp.
