Gallant, Hunt qualify for Worlds

Friday, September 5, 2008

Four Maine archers have qualified as members of the 12-person United States team that will compete in the World Junior Championships in Antalya, Turkey, Oct. 6-12.

Adam Gallant of Poland and Joey Hunt III of Minot made the squad through the trials. Joining them on the international stage will be Levi Cyr of Falmouth and Kendal Nicely of Gorham.

The world trial included an entire day of round-robin matches.

The performance of the Maine delegation means that it represents a staggering one-third of the U.S. team.

In related competition during the week leading up to the trials in Colorado Springs, Gallant placed third in the 124th National Target Championships in the Male Junior division. Hunt was fourth in the Male Cadet class.

Cyr, Nicely and Gabrielle Cyr of Falmouth each walked away from that event with a national title.
