PORTLAND (AP) - Many Maine women say they're pleased at the vice presidential nomination of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, even if they disagree with her politics.

Casey Beaudoin backed Hillary Clinton for president and is not a Republican. But she's the mother of two girls, and wants them to see that they can achieve anything.

Susan Feiner, director of Women and Gender Studies at the University of Southern Maine, says the idea of putting a woman with five kids on the ticket would have been unthinkable 10 years ago. She says Palin's nomination shows that women's progress is reaching the highest levels of political life.
