Record lows seen around the state

Saturday, September 20, 2008

CARIBOU (AP) - Parts of northern Maine hit record lows Friday morning as a hard freeze brought the growing season to an end.

Rich Norton of the National Weather Service says Caribou hit 27 degrees, 2 degrees lower than the previous record for the date set in 1995. Norton says it's not unusual to have a freeze this early in northern Maine. He says that the first frost last year was in August.

Other overnight lows included 26 in Frenchville and Houlton, 27 in Presque Isle, 30 in Millinocket, 29 in Old Town and 33 in Bangor.
