High school football: Weekend peek

Thursday, October 9, 2008

Lewiston (5-0) at Bangor (2-3)

Friday, 7 p.m.

Haven't we been here before? Yeah, four times since Sept. 2006, to be exact. And somehow, the Rams have won them all.

Messalonskee (2-3) at Edward Little (4-1)

Friday,. 7 p.m.

A clash of styles, although admittedly we can't be sure which style the Eddies will employ.

Skowhegan (5-0) at Oxford Hills (0-5)

Friday, 7 p.m.

Yikes. Not really a fair fight at the moment.

Brunswick (2-3) at Mt. Blue (1-4)

Friday, 7 p.m.

Unless the Cougars spring an insane upset of Bangor or Skowhegan the last two weeks, they're playing for next year.

Morse (2-2) at Leavitt (5-0)

Friday, 7 p.m.

Hornets averaging 34 points per game; Shipbuilders, 27.

Greely (3-2) at Mtn. Valley (5-0)

Friday, 7 p.m.

Justin Staires might have to carry more of the load with Matt Laubauskas and John Gorham banged up. We're sure the Rangers are thrilled.

Lisbon (4-1) at Liv. Falls (3-2)

Friday, 7 p.m.

Nothing better than one of these old Mountain Valley Conference battles. OK, back to modern times: Andies desperately need a win to heighten Campbell playoff chances.

Jay (2-3) at Boothbay (1-4)

Friday, 7 p.m.

If the Tigers stuff the double wing like they smothered Lisbon's east-west rushing attack, they should roll.

Falmouth (3-2) at Gray-NG (0-5)

Friday, 7 p.m.

Don't look now, but the Yachtsmen have a shot at the Western B playoffs.

Fryeburg (1-4) at Poland (1-4)

Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

Two in a row for the Knights after a two-year winless skid? Not impossible, if they hold onto the football.

Oak Hill (1-4) at Maranacook (0-4)

Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

Raiders, beware: Black Bears have thrown scares into Leavitt and Morse at home.

Winthrop (5-0) at OOB (3-2)

Saturday, 7 p.m.

Will the fog and mosquitoes that made the Maine Guides famous slow down the Ramblers? Probably not.
