Girls' high school roundup: Mt. Abram stays perfect

SALEM - Kaitie Bushman drilled home a shot from 25 yards out to snap a second-half deadlock and send Mt. Abram to a 2-1 victory over Georges Valley in a showdown of unbeaten MVC girls' soccer powers.

The teams swapped goals in the first half before the Roadrunners (13-0) scored the game-winner. Rachel Fullerton set up Bushman, whose shot went over the goalie's head and into the net.

Emma James also scored for Mt. Abram, while Lindsey Dupuis scored for Georges Valley (10-1-1). Kenni Norton was credited with six saves for Mt. Abram.

St. Dom's 2, Traip 0

KITTERY - Mary Caron and Elise Applegate combined on a shutout to lead St. Dom's to a 2-0 victory over Traip.

Following a scoreless first half, the Saints (4-6-1) took charge. Sophie Goulet broke the 0-0 tie on a feed from Steph Costello. Arynne Landry added an insurance goal when she converted a pass from Taylor Paquette. Caron and Applegate finished with six saves as a duo.

Medomak 3, Oak Hill 0

WALES - Kasey Benner recorded two goals in the first half to pace Medomak Valley to a 3-0 blanking over Oak Hill.

Maria Snow assisted on one of Benner's two tallies, and netted a goal of her own in the second half for the Panthers.

The Raiders (6-5-1) outshot Medomak 16-12 as goalie Rachel Keefe made 12 saves for the Panthers, and Alex Donald prevented eight for Oak Hill.

Buckfield 5, Richmond 3

BUCKFIELD - Senior left wing Lindsay Henderson notched a hat trick as Buckfield pushed their way to a 5-3 triumph over Richmond in EWC girls' soccer action Friday.

LeAnn Abbott and Danielle Patrie were outstanding in the midfield for the Bucks (5-1-1), providing Henderson with many opportunities. Henderson added an insurance goal at the 30:12 mark of the second half on a cross from junior right wing Ashlee Hamann to put Buckfield up 5-3.

Striker Danica Hurley didn't let Buckfield get to comfortable a lead. She scored two goals for the Bobcats midway through the second stanza.

Dirigo 1, Hall-Dale 1

DIXFIELD - Dirigo and Hall-Dale played to a 1-1 tie in girls' soccer action Friday.

The Cougars (4-5-3) scored the opening goal when Emily Chase converted a relay from Tia Dakin at the 13:26 mark of the first half.

Kristina Buck collected an unassisted tally at 1:23 for the Bulldogs (6-4-2) to knot up the game before intermission.

Goalie Lanette Bryant made 14 saves for Dirigo, while Anna Levesque turned away a pair of shots for Hall-Dale.

Mtn Valley 0, Monmouth 0

MONMOUTH - Kelsie Hilton preserved a tie with a diving save with eight seconds remaining in regulation to help Monmouth earn a 0-0 tie with Mountain Valley.

The tie broke a 10-game losing streak for the Mustangs (0-10-1). Hilton had four saves, while Tia White made six saves for the Falcons (1-5-6).

Lisbon 2, Jay-Livermore Falls 0

JAY - Shauna Riordon and Brooke Lawrence each recorded a second-half goal as Lisbon catapulted to a 2-0 win over Jay-Livermore Falls.

The Greyhounds (10-1-1) controlled the momentum over the course of the match, outshooting the Wildcats (6-3-3) by a margin of 25-7.

Goalie Ashley Beaulieu was busy in net with 21 saves for Jay-Livermore, while Sara Purcell turned away five for Lisbon to earn the win.

Hebron 2, CVA 1

CARRABASSETT VALLEY - Claire Cummings and Sarah Markey each scored on a penalty kick in the first half as Hebron took a 2-1 victory over Carrabassett Valley.

The Lumberjacks dominated play in the second half, outshooting Carrabassett 21-5 in the stanza. Emily Garrand scored the lone goal for Carrabasset Valley.

Goalie Emily Russell recorded three saves to earn the win for Hebron.

Field hockey

Telstar 3, Jay 0

BETHEL - Whitney Mills scored two goals and added an assist to lead Telstar to a 3-0 triumph over Jay in MVC field hockey action Friday.

The Rebels (12-1) took a 2-0 lead at halftime, and kept the edge with strong defensive support through the second stanza. Jamie Stevens scored a goal, and T.J. Cowin assisted on both of Mills' tallies.

Goalie Sierra Loon made nine saves for Telstar, while Brianna Douglass turned away seven for the Tigers in the losing effort.

Poland 2, Fryeburg 0

POLAND - Hillary Clark and Kelsie Taylor each scored a goal as Poland marched off with a 2-0 victory over Fryeburg in girls' soccer Friday.

Clark scored in the first half on a Dalia Lapinas feed, and Taylor followed in the second half with her goal on a pass from Tessa Mascetta.

Poland goalie Samantha St. Pierre maded seven saves.

Lisbon 2, Mtn. Valley 1

LISBON - Freshman Angel Strout scored the game-clinching goal with 12:58 remaining in the second half as Lisbon grabbed a 2-1 victory over Mountain Valley in field hockey action Friday.

Kelly Bourgoin scored the first goal of the contest at the 4:54 mark in the first half for the Greyhounds (8-4). Lauren LePage evened the score at 1-1 just seconds later for the Falcons (10-3).

Goalie Emily Gallant had seven saves for the Falcons, while Monica Lakin fended off 25 shots to earn the win for Lisbon.

Hebron 7, Kents Hill 0

HEBRON - Kailey Bubier scored four first-period goals and added a pair of assists to lead Hebron to a 7-0 rout over Kents Hill.

Camree Thompson netted two goals, and Rebekah Jett added another to round out the scoring for the Lumberjacks (5-2).

Goalie Meghan Munro turned away all four shots she faced for Hebron, while Amy Hilton fended off 12 shots for the Huskies (0-7).
