This week: Trade

McCain: Supports free trade.

Obama:
Opposes unrestricted free trade. During the Democratic primary election he said he would seek to re-open NAFTA to strengthen enforcement of labor and environmental standards, but during his 2004 U.S. Senate campaign he called for enforcement of existing trade agreements.

His entire political career John McCain has been opposed to Americans having a Merchant Marine. He cites the high cost of wages and conveniently avoids the fact that seamen from other nations such as the UK, Holland, Norway, Sweden and numerous Flags of Convenience do not, nor have ever had to pay taxes. American seamen compete against others that have numerous hidden subsidies such as this and McCain never went after any of them. Globalization and Free Trade are two items that I can gladly support as long as there is an even and level playing field. I wouldn’t expect a man who doesn’t even know how many houses he owns to understand this. What is wrong with asking our trading partners to do away with their subsidies and level the playing field?

John McCain is pro corporation and has and will continue to do anything that will make more money for the corporations even if it is harmful to the rest of us, and even if it is harmful to our country. He is not country 1st, he is profits for the corporations 1st.

The devil is in the details. Free Trade is a PR slogan. Thereforee McCain has no position except to deceive the voters.

Free trade has killed this state, go to wilton, millonocket, lincoln etc and you can see the impact of a free trade. Obama has a good Idea to open the NAFTA, but its a treaty and its just rhetoric if the other countries don't want to open the agreement to talk. Clinton got us into this mess and I don't see why the other countries would be willing to talks, the current agreement favors them. I wouldn't open up the talk if I was them.
