The Sun Journal welcomes press releases about business-related news. Depending on news value, the newspaper might contact businesses to further develop stories. In other cases, submissions will be edited and appear as part of the business page in the daily newspaper in approximate order that items are received. Please allow two weeks for releases relating to specific events, such as for an upcoming seminar of interest to area people.
Photos relating to press releases are welcome as well. Photographs should be of good quality and in color. People in the photo must be clearly identified, left to right.
General rules: News releases pertaining to businesses or business people within the Sun Journal's general circulation area (Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties) can be used.
Items about new businesses, expansion, relocations, new personnel and the promotion of employees can be used. Releases about businesses celebrating a first anniversary, as well as other anniversaries divisible by five will be considered. Employee anniversaries will be considered at 10-year intervals. The retirement of a long-time employee is noteworthy.
Items about businesspeople who attend conferences, seminars, tours, etc., can be used if the person is a presenter at the conference, receives certification, or receives significant recognition in the form of a regional or national award from an organization not affiliated with their specific employer.
Releases about new products will be considered, providing the product line is an expansion of the business not related to previous offerings. For example, if a hair salon adds a selection of clothing, that would be accepted. Offering other beauty services, such as waxing or tinting, would not.
Area chambers of commerce releases on their activities, meetings and events, as well as personnel changes, new services and the like are encouraged. Likewise, area growth councils and similar agencies are invited to submit releases for consideration.
Business groups holding a meeting in the Sun Journal circulation area are welcome to submit a notice providing that the meeting is open to anyone who might want to attend.
Except for an annual or one-time award, such as an employee of the year, releases about in-house awards will not be used.
Releases about appointments of business employees to boards, such as those overseeing social service agencies, or businesses making charitable contributions, should be submitted to communitynews@sunjournal.
