Storytelling business opens


TURNER – Mama Goose, a storytelling business, is now available for storytelling and interactive play performances for preschools, day cares, schools, libraries, museums, holiday parties, churches, fundraiser events and fairs.

Kayt DeMerchant, known as Mama Goose, is a professional storyteller. She provides stories with opportunities for audience participation.

Presentations are interactive and designed for infants through elementary school-age children. Mama Goose also designs Once Upon a Birthday programs with a special storytelling based on a particular birthday party theme or a beloved story of the birthday child.

DeMerchant’s love of storytelling began as a child. She began writing nonfiction stories as a young adult and received the Blue Stocking Award for excellence in creative writing from the University of New England, where she graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in American studies and business.

She is a former community relations manager at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. She is a member of the National Storytelling Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the art of storytelling. She is also a member of the League for the Advancement of New England Storytelling, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the appreciation and promotion of the art of storytelling.

DeMerchant also volunteers at the Turner Primary School and River Valley Head Start and Child Care. She and her husband live in Turner with their three children, all age 5 and under.
