Lightning need strike only once against Pens

TAMPA, Fla. – Sean Burke made 25 saves for his second shutout of the season, and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 1-0.

The Lightning opted to stay with Burke, who had allowed three goals in two straight wins. He posted his 37th overall shutout. John Grahame, who has a 9-1-1 record against Pittsburgh, was the backup.

Vincent Lecavalier scored for Tampa Bay, which has won a team-record eight consecutive home games. The defending Stanley Cup champions are tied with Montreal for seventh place in the Eastern Conference. Ninth-place Atlanta is six points back.

Pittsburgh rookie center Sidney Crosby left after two shifts in the second period with a lower body injury. Crosby, who had his four-game goal-scoring streak end, returned to the ice with 15:37 left in the third.

Crosby is the youngest NHL player to record 90 points, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. He reached the mark at the age of 18 years, 243 days, during a four-point performance in Friday night’s 5-1 win at Florida. Hall of Famer Dale Hawerchuk, at the age of 18 years, 343 days, held the previous record.

Lecavalier put the Lightning ahead 1-0 on a backhander 51 seconds into the second. Vinny Prospal set up Lecavalier’s 35th goal of the season on a pass from behind the net.

Tampa Bay nearly took a two-goal lead at the 6-minute mark, but Brad Richards hit the post during a Lightning power play. Richards had a 10-game point streak end. He had 16 assists and 18 points over the stretch.

Burke made an in-close save on Ryan Malone during a Pittsburgh power play with 14 minutes to play.
