Student is tops at baking

MINOT – Alexander Szczesny of Minot, who attended Lewiston Regional Technical Center, was among the top in the nation in the commercial baking competition of the 2007 SkillsUSA Championships held in Kansas City, Mo., on June 28. Szczesny’s performance earned a skill point certificate in the inaugural year of the SkillsUSA Work Force Ready System.

“The skill point certificate is only awarded in Kansas City as the pinnacle achievement for SkillsUSA members in the Work Force Ready System,” said Tim Lawrence, executive director of SkillsUSA.

The SkillsUSA championship is the national-level competition for public high school and college/postsecondary technical students enrolled in trade, technical and skilled service profession instructional programs. Each SkillsUSA championship contestant is a state-level gold medalist.

A skill point certificate is earned by achieving a high score defined by industry as proficient and based on contest standards designed by industry representatives.
