Students, rock band team up to help Red Cross

BETHEL— Maine rock band Monsta will play Saturday, May 8, at the Funky Red Barn, with proceeds benefiting local relief efforts of the American Red Cross of Southern Maine’s United Valley chapter.

The event is being put on by a group of Lewiston-Auburn College students who are completing degrees in social and behavioral sciences.

Crystal Aylward, one of the project’s leaders, said choosing the Red Cross as a beneficiary was a slam dunk.

“With all the bad things happening around the world, we sometimes forget that we need to take care of our neighbors,” Aylward said. “It is well worth the time involved, knowing that we are going to be helping many different people when they need it the most.”

For a $10 entry fee — payable only in cash at the door — patrons can dance the night away with Monsta, whose rock repertoire spans the classics to the best of today.

“Not only will this event help with flood and fire relief, but our organization also helps military families keep in touch with deployed troops,” Aylward said.

The benefit dance will run from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The Funky Red Barn is at 19 Summer St. For more information, call 824-3003.
