AUBURN — The parents of a teenager who died two years ago after plunging from a third-floor porch at a Lewiston apartment building are suing for wrongful death.
Eva Cordero, 18, died in September 2008 from injuries resulting from a 20-foot fall from the porch.
She and Marty Paige, who was 31 years old at the time, both fell from the porch of a building at 6 Knox St., on the corner of Spruce Street, police said. Paige suffered broken bones and other injuries and was treated at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, according to published reports.
Police arrived at the building after midnight to find a group of people around Cordero, who was unconscious and unable to breath on her own.
She was taken to CMMC where she was kept alive for awhile, but later died.
Police were investigating what caused the two to fall.
Saul and Judith Cordero of Denver, Colo., parents of Eva Cordero, brought the suit as representatives of their daughter’s estate.
The defendant, PropSys, appears to be the recorded owner of the property at the time of the accident.
According to the complaint, filed in Androscoggin County Superior Court, PropSys failed to provide: adequate security, reasonably safe premises and adequately trained and responsible personnel. It also “failed to protect its tenants and invitees from harm while on the premises,” the suit alleges.
Cordero died because of Propsys’ negligence, the complaint says.
Her parents are seeking compensation for damages, including medical expenses, funeral expenses, emotional distress, loss of comfort, society, companionship and punitive damages.
They also are seeking compensation for damages related to their pain and suffering.
