Editor’s note: The Taylor Pond Ice Fishing Derby was moved from Feb. 2 until Saturday, Feb. 9. The entrance to the lake is under a foot of water. Predicted temperatures should freeze this by next weekend, according to organizers.
AUBURN — The third annual Ice Fishing Derby on Taylor Pond will be held from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. All proceeds benefit Healthy Smiles for ME, a nonprofit organization that helps Maine children receive dental care.
There will be hot food and beverages. Closing ceremonies will be at 2:30. Raffles will be drawn.
Prizes include four lifetime hunting and fishing licenses.
The cost for an adult ticket is $20. Adults can win cash prizes for the largest pike.
A child’s ticket is $5 for ages 12 and under. Prizes will be awarded for largest pike by weight and largest pickerel by weight.
The derby will be at 795 Garfield Road. Take Minot Avenue to Garfield Road, across from Blackies Fruit Stand, and go two miles down on the right. There is plenty of free parking.
