Theater Project’s Updated “Little Mermaid” By and For Kids
BRUNSWICK — The Theater Project’s Young People’s Theater will present their newest production April 9, 10 and 11. This updated version of Hans Christian Anderson’s “A Little Mermaid” has been created by 14 talented, local youths in the theater’s spring production class, and they have titled their version “Lil Mer (featuring Shaniqua).”
Using improvisation as a problem-solving tool, the middle schoolers have remolded the story’s events and attitudes to better reflect their own more modern viewpoint. Humor is, not surprisingly, the favorite vehicle for their expression.
The show is appropriate for children who can sit attentively for at least a half hour and will be enjoyable for adults as well. Show times are 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m., Sunday. As always, tickets are “pay-as-you-choose” with a suggested donation to our programming of $6.
Reservations are suggested and can be made online at www.theaterproject.com or by calling the box office at 729-8584. The Theater Project is located at 14 School Street in Brunswick.
