Thelma C. Frena


LEWISTON – Thelma C. Frena, 83, of Grove Street, Lisbon Falls, died July 10, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Bowdoin Center March 10, 1924, a daughter to the late James T. and Hannah (Annie) (Hill) Cornish.

She attended Bowdoin public school and graduated from Lisbon Falls High School in 1941 and Bliss College in 1942. She had been very active as secretary and chairman of the special planning committee for the Lisbon Falls High School, Class of 1941 scholarship and other class activitiesfor many years. She married John P. (Jack) Frena in 1973, and resided in Lisbon Falls, summering in Harpswell.

She was employed in office work all her life at the United States Gypsum Co., Worumbo Mill; retiring from Bowdoin College News Service.

She was a member of The Holy Family Church and the Maine State Music Theatre. She worked for Victoria Crandall when it was known as the Brunswick Summer Playhouse. She was a member of the Sagadahoc Grange and Sagadahoc Pomona Grange No. 9 for more than 50 years. She was also a member of Topsham Grange. On April 6, she was honored by Remember ME in honor of her dedication to the scholarship she and her husband Jack started in memory of the fallen heroes of the class of 1941.

She leaves a niece, Marsha Tannenbaum; and two nephews, Randy Jones, and his wife, Carolyn and John Jones, and his wife, Star.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jack in 2005.

Thelma’s family would like to send a very special thank-you to the entire staff at Marshwood nursing facility for the exceptional care they gave Thelma while she was there.
