1934 – 2014
MEDWAY, Mass. — Theresa Ann (Gaffney) Hanlon, 80, of Medway, Mass., and formerly of Franklin, died Saturday, Dec. 20, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of John Lawrence Hanlon for over 58 years.
Born in Elwood, Ind., on Jan. 19, 1934, the daughter of the late John and Viola (Bradley) Gaffney, Theresa lived in Franklin, raising her family from 1958 to 1984. They moved to Medway, Mass., where she and her husband, John, resided until a few months ago.
Theresa always wanted to be a mom and an “outstanding mom” is how her children all feel about her. Her greatest passion was cooking. She always looked forward to the next family occasion, for which she would plan weeks ahead for just the right combination of recipes for the food she would lovingly make. One of her greatest joys was creating a cookbook of her favorite recipes that she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
In addition to cooking, she also enjoyed playing bridge and looked forward to her weekly games. She was exhilarated when she won, even if it was only a quarter!
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, John “Jack” Hanlon and his wife, Cathy, of Glen Gardner, N.J., Mary Jane Hanlon of Lexington, Mass., Lisa Bussolari and her husband, Michael, of Medfield, Mass., Maureen Novak and her husband, Dale, of San Antonio, Texas, Marcia Hanlon of Concord, Mass., and Mark Hanlon and his wife, Tracy, of Saratoga, N.Y. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lauren Senter, Courtney Rogers, Michaela Hanlon and John Hanlon III.
She was the sister of the late Patrick Gaffney and Jon Gaffney of Albuquerque, N.M.
