WATERVILLE – Thomas swept a pair of five-inning softball games against visiting Newbury College on Friday afternoon by a combined score of 25-2.
Senior pitcher Joy Ireland struck out 10 in the first game to run her record to 5-3 on the season.
Ireland backed up her defense at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Kristen Burke also added a pair of hits for the Terriers, who are now 7-9 on the season.
Thomas sophomore Nikki Smith improved to 2-4 on the mound with a complete game, 10 strikeout performance in the second game.
Trinity 4, Colby 3
WATERVILLE – Trinity erased a 3-1 deficit with two runs in the fifth inning and Erik Paisley scored on an RBI single by Matt Stafford as the bantams edged Colby 4-3 in NESCAC East baseball action.
Sean Killeen collected four hits for Trinity (12-6), knocking in a pair of runs. Eric McGrath picked up the victory after enterng the game in the fifth, and Stafford, Chandler Barnard, and Guy Gogliettino all had two hits for the Bantams.
Andy Carr sparked Colby (5-6) with a pair of hits, the first a two RBI single in the bottom of the first to put the Mules on the board. Roddy Ames scored the other run for Colby.
on a double by Colin Riggs, and starter Sam Kennedy-Smith worked nearly seven innings in a losing effort.
