LEWISTON — The Thread Theater will hold its next presentation of throw-down-style performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Franco Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The theme is “Tied in Knots” and Tony Morin will be the host.
The theater celebrated six months of performances at the center in July. Playwrights provided 13 short scripts; 10 were performed.
All who would like to write plays are invited to enter their work. Plays or scenes must be less than 10 minutes long. Playwrights are responsible for bringing enough copies of the play for all of the required actors and one copy to submit. They are also responsible for any props. Plays will be drawn at random and performed in two acts.
Once a play is selected and the actors are drawn, they have two minutes to assign roles and give some brief direction. The best play in each act will be voted on by all in attendance and a winner of the night will be chosen by the audience. Plays should be connected in some way to the evening’s theme.
Anyone who would like to be considered as an actor may put his or her name in for random drawings. A “best actor” will be voted on by the audience at the end of the night.
The event tends to carry adult themes and is usually not appropriate for minors, who should be accompanied by responsible adults, or have permission to attend.
There is a $5 entry fee for everyone. The Heritage Café kitchen and bar will be open one hour before and suppertime munchies of pizza, sandwiches and nachos will be available before and during the show.
The Thread Theater at 46 Cedar St. is handicapped-accessible. All proceeds benefit the Franco Center.
