FARMINGTON – Three people accused of intentionally setting fires in recent months were among 44 people indicted this week on 104 counts by a Franklin County grand jury.

Charles L. Brown, 53, of Rangeley was indicted on charges of arson, criminal operating under the influence and operating after suspension.

Brown is accused of setting a May 3 fire at a vacant garage and small apartment in Coplin Plantation.

State fire investigators and Rangeley police went to Brown’s residence on Summer Road in May to serve a warrant on him in connection to the arson charge. Once inside, fire investigators heard a shot fired on another side of a door, and they took cover outside.

A couple of hours later, Brown stumbled out on to the porch with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face.

A Eustis woman, Donna A. Reid, 44, was also indicted on a charge of arson in connection with a fire at a mobile home on April 17 on Route 27 in Eustis.

The trailer, owned by a Wyman Township woman, was destroyed in the blaze.

According to state fire investigator, Sgt. Joel Davis’ affidavit at the time of the arrest, Reid told Davis that “she had been drinking beer and was angry about life and went to her trailer and was wrecking the place, when she decided to pile some books along a wall in the kitchen and lit them on fire.”

“She said she watched the fire grow up the wall and exited the building and sat at a picnic table outside watching the smoke coming from the building” and after watching for a while walked to her parents’ house.

Daniel Jackson, 25, of Farmington, who has been held at the Franklin County jail for more than a year on other charges including fugitive from justice, escape from the Farmington jail and kidnapping in July 2006, was indicted on charges of arson, assault on an officer and assault.

Jackson is accused of assaulting a corrections officer when she tried to break up a fight between another inmate and him, and then set fire to the cell where he was segregated.
