DETROIT (AP) – Chris Shelton hit his 10th homer in April to match the Tigers record and Nate Robertson pitched seven shutout innings to help Detroit beat the Minnesota Twins 9-0 Friday night.

Shelton hit a solo shot in the third inning to match Cecil Fielder’s mark set in 1996. After hitting nine homers in his first 13 games, Shelton had gone nine without one.

Robertson (3-2) allowed five hits in seven innings, walking one and striking out seven. The left-hander has now pitched 14 straight scoreless innings. He shutout Seattle for seven innings on April 22 after giving up 14 runs in 14 1-3 innings over his first three starts.

Jordan Tata and Fernando Rodney each pitched a scoreless inning to finish the six-hitter.

Carlos Guillen added four RBIs, including a bases-loaded double in a four-run third inning, while Ivan Rodriguez and Placido Polanco each had three hits.

Brad Radke (2-3) lost for the first time in 13 career starts in Detroit. He allowed six runs and nine hits in 2 1-3 innings to drop to 7-1 lifetime in road games against the Tigers.

Detroit scored single runs in the first two innings before putting the game away in the third.

With one out in the first, Polanco, Rodriguez and Magglio Ordonez hit three straight singles to load the bases, and Guillen followed with a sacrifice fly.

Marcus Thames made it 2-0 in the second with his third homer of the year.

In the third, Polanco and Rodriguez led off with singles, and Radke loaded the bases by walking Ordonez. Guillen followed with a double off the glove of a diving Torii Hunter in center field. All three runners scored, but Guillen was thrown out trying for third before Shelton’s homer.

The Tigers added three runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Thames, run-scoring single by Polanco and a bases-loaded walk to Ordonez.

Notes: Rodriguez had two hits in as many at-bats against Radke, raising his batting average against Radke to .422. … Shelton hit .138 during the Tigers nine-game road trip in which he was homerless. … Thames’ seventh-inning single gave him four RBIs on the season, the first three all coming on solo homers.
