Timberwolves 116, Grizzlies 110

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Kevin Garnett had 28 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks, Ricky Davis added 27 points and seven assists, and the Minnesota Timberwolves weathered Memphis’ late rally to defeat the Grizzlies 116-110 on Friday night.

Minnesota took an early lead and extended it to 22 in the second period. Memphis got the deficit under 10 midway through the fourth quarter. Consecutive baskets from the right baseline by Alexander Johnson and a bucket inside by Brian Cardinal got Memphis within 104-97 with 5:25 left.

But the Grizzlies couldn’t overtake Minnesota and failed again to win back-to-back games. The Grizzlies, who beat the Lakers on Monday night, have not won two straight all season.

Minnesota won for the fifth time in six games.

Mike James scored 16 for the Timberwolves, and Justin Reed had 10 off the bench.

Mike Miller led Memphis with 23, and Pau Gasol finished with 20. Dahntay Jones scored 12 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter to key Memphis’ rally. Cardinal finished with 13 for the Grizzlies.
