FARMINGTON — Titcomb Mountain in West Farmington is gearing up for another season.

The first annual Pass Blast 5K Trail Run/Hike will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, with registration beginning at 8 a.m.

Along with the 5K, a Pass Blast held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. provides the best time to get Titcomb season passes at the lowest prices.

Saturday will also be a work day, as members get ready for a busy season by painting and trimming the brush.

This 5K is for all levels. The $10 entry fee goes toward scholarships for children who want to participate in Titcomb’s winter ski and snowboard programs but don’t have the means to do so.

For those who haven’t experienced the single-track trail, which has become very popular for mountain biking and hiking, this is a chance to enjoy it with others.

At the Pass Blast there will be membership applications to get the lowest price on a season’s pass and a free order of Titcomb’s famous french fries with each membership. Information on the many programs that Titcomb offers will be available.

A $50 deposit per membership secures the low price.  Those who can’t come to the Blast can get the same prices by postmarking their applications by Oct. 27.

The club, which owns and operates the ski and snowboard area, relies heavily on the members and community volunteering. On Pass Blast day crews will be painting, cutting brush and getting the firewood ready. There are also volunteer work parties every Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. until the snow flies.

Other events at the Farmington Ski Club/Titcomb Mountain are the New and Used Equipment Sale on Nov. 8, with consignment drop off on Nov. 7, the Holiday Auction on Dec. 5 and the Opening Day Pancake Breakfast on Dec. 20.
