Toddler struck in Lewiston


LEWISTON — A one-year-old child was struck by a pickup truck a little before 1 p.m. at the corner of Sabattus and College streets.

According to eyewitness accounts. the child was in a stroller being pushed by her mother and was struck as the mother dashed across Sabattus Street.

According to police, the driver of the pickup is Kyle Burgess, 19, of Monmouth. Police say Burgess had a green light to turn left onto Sabattus and Glenn, who received a cut on her leg, was obeying the crosswalk signal.

After the child was taken to Central Maine Medical Center by ambulance, the child’s father approached the driver, yelling and attempting to strike him. Police remain at the scene.
