Tour De O’Hills to help ski team travel for training

PARIS — The Tour De O’Hills Bike Race will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, starting at the Gouin Athletic Complex.

The route and additional information is available on Facebook and on flyers around town. Registration forms are available at Nomad Cafe, The Green Machine and Books ‘n Things.

There will also be a free kids rodeo at the Oxford Hills High School parking lot for children 10 and under sponsored by the DOT.

Julia M. Dillon, a senior at OHCHS and a member of the Nordic cross country ski team, is hosting the race as her senior project.

This is her fourth year of racing with the team. Every year it has been the goal for the entire team to travel to Fort Kent to attend the Maine Winter Sports Center for a week of advanced training.

The team has not been able to go due to lack of adequate funding. This past spring at the team’s ski awards dinner, members decided to start raising funds so that everyone could afford to go this year. A couple of car wash events were helpful in reaching the goal.

“I wanted to come up with another way to obtain funding and thought a biking event would be fun,” said Dillon. “The school has approved for me to host a local bike race as my senior project, as well as the town. I have received much support and enthusiasm about the event.”

Anyone who would like to volunteer on the courses is asked to contact Dillon via Facebook or at [email protected]
