OAKLAND — A woman was taken to a hospital after she was struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 late Friday morning, the Maine State Police said.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said the accident happened shortly before noon.
The victim, Marilyn Whitford, 65, of Orono, had parked her van in the southbound breakdown lane at Mile 128, McCausland said she had stopped to retrieve water from her back seat.
McCausland said as Whitford stepped out, she walked into the path of a truck driven by Martin Thurston, 42, of Fairfield.
Thurston swerved to avoid Whitford but McCausland said she apparently came in contact with the trailer portion of the truck.
Southbound traffic was stopped for about a half-hour but is now flowing normally, McCausland said.
Whitford’s injuries were not considered life threatening and she was taken to MaineGeneral Hospital before being LifeFlighted to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
Thurston was driving for Associated Grocers of Maine.
