Trek is looking for cyclists

BETHEL – Nearly 2,000 cyclists will set off from Sunday River Ski Resort on Friday, June 16, in the American Lung Association of Maine’s 22nd annual Trek Across Maine-Sunday River to the Sea.

Supported by more than 300 volunteers, cyclists will cover 180 miles over the three-day ride, culminating at the Owls Head Transportation Museum on Sunday, June 18.

“We already have over 1,500 participants registered and have the capacity to accommodate 500 more cyclists. We want people to register in time to train properly for the ride. We know they will enjoy a remarkable and exciting weekend,” said Kathryn Libby, association development director.

There will be overnight stops at the University of Maine at Farmington and Colby College in Waterville.

The 2006 Trek Across Maine is expected to raise more than $1 million to support the lung association’s efforts to improve air quality, reduce smoking, help lung disease patients manage their illness and support research to prevent lung disease and improve lung health for Maine.
