Trooper slightly hurt in crash

LITCHFIELD — A Maine State Police officer was slightly injured Sunday afternoon when his cruiser and another car collided on Hallowell Road, police said.

Trooper Jonathan Leach sustained minor cuts to his head from the seat belt and air bag when his cruiser struck a car that pulled into his path from the parking lot of the Litchfield Sportsman’s Club, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said Monday.

The other car was driven by 81-year-old Edward Brown of Durham. Brown and his two passengers, his wife, Geraldine Brown, 75, and 67-year-old Peter Richards of Durham, were not injured.

Both cars were demolished. The cruiser was an unmarked 2007 Ford Crown Victoria and Brown’s car was a 1997 Mercury Sable. The trooper was on routine patrol when the crash took place at 5 p.m., McCausland said.
