Truck shifts out of gear, dents building

RUMFORD — Police say a pickup truck left partially parked on a sidewalk on Tuesday night and near a Cumberland Street apartment complex, shifted out of gear on its own, rolled forward and dented the building.

Officer Donald Miller said the accident, which involved a 1995 Ford Ranger owned by Logan White, 21, of Mexico, happened at about 9:30 p.m. at 230 Cumberland Ave. and was reported about 15 minutes later.

“The vehicle, which was a standard, wasn’t put into gear properly and was left partly on the sidewalk, and it rolled over the sidewalk and into the house,” Miller said. “Residents said they heard a loud bang.”

Miller estimated damage at about $1,000 to both the building, which is owned by John and Della Robichaud, and White’s pickup truck.

No charges were filed, and there were no injuries.
