Turkey hunter wounded on opening day

HOLLIS, Maine (AP) — The Maine Warden Service says a 44-year-old Sanford turkey hunter was shot and wounded in the opening hours of the spring season.

Officials say 44-year-old Mark Lemieux suffered injuries to his legs, chest, head and face Monday morning after being hit by a shot fired by his uncle, 69-year-old Gerard Lemieux of Gorham.

The two were hunting Monday morning in the Hollis area.
Officials say Mark Lemieux was treated and released from Goodall Hospital in Sanford.

The incident being investigated by the Maine Warden Service.

Monday marks the first day of spring wild turkey hunting season. In certain parts of the state the season runs through June 4.
