OXFORD — A former selectman is running against Selectman Roger Jackson in the June election.
Richard Varney is the challenger in Oxford’s only contested race.
On the SAD 17 board, member Henry Jackson is running uncontested, and Bill Frye is running uncontested for the Water District Board of Trustees.
A former Oxford firefighter and police officer, Varney spent 32 years in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a selectman for two years and said he wants to get back into town politics.
“There are still a lot of things that aren’t right,” he said Friday.
Roger Jackson runs Jackson Sugarhouse and is the brother of Caldwell Jackson, an Oxford County commissioner and deputy commissioner of agriculture for Gov. Paul LePage’s administration.
The town election is set for June 14. Town meeting is June 11.
