Two-wheeled cart eases laundry chores

0

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you know where we can find a two-wheel laundry cart? We like to hang out our laundry on a clothesline and putting wet clothes in a laundry cart makes it easier than toting a heavy laundry basket. — Winfield Grant, winfieldgrant@yahoo.com

ANSWER: Most of the laundry carts Sun Spots has seen, and found on the Internet, are four-wheeled. She thinks that what you might have in mind is actually called a shopping cart by retailers. They have two wheels on the back where the handle is and legs on the front for when the unit is standing up. Sun Spots has one (someone threw it out when she lived in a Portland condo!), and it’s quite handy.

As for buying one, if this is what you have in mind, online she found them at amazon.com (large selection), plumbersurplus.com (they call them a utility cart) and acehardware.com. There are other sites as well.

If you don’t want to buy online, you could visit Ace Hardware (there is one in Auburn, Petro’s Hardware and Landscape Center, 965 Minot Ave., 783-0433, petroshardware.com) and ask them to order it for you if they don’t have one in stock.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you please send me the name of the shoe repair place in Brunswick. I misplaced the address. Thank you. — E.E. via email

ANSWER: Midcoast Shoe Repair, 14 Maine St., Brunswick 725-8557, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for the phone number for the person on Sabattus Street in Lewiston (or anyone else in the area) who does sewing on leather. I need a zipper replaced in a jacket. — Charles Mitchell, Dixfield

ANSWER: Sun Spots thinks you are probably looking for Alterations by Judy and Industrial Stitching & Leather Repair, 906 Sabattus St., Lewiston, 783-6201. Another option is Sharon Gagne, who had a shop in Buckfield for 35 years and now works out of Hartford, 388-3369.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there anyone in the Rumford area who reupholsters furniture? Thank you. — No Name, Byron

ANSWER: Sun Spots doesn’t have anyone in her Rolodex from Rumford. The closest is Sumner. According to Rosemarie Osborn, roz@megalink.net, 388-2007, Alan Osborn is a third-generation upholsterer and offers a wide service area. If there are other upholsterers in the area who would like to be listed, please write to Sun Spots.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I enjoy your column! I am looking for a carpet cleaner in the Rumford area. I called Mr. Gastonguay numerous times and left a message but received no reply. — C.B., Rumford

ANSWER: Sun Spots called the number she found online for Mr. Gastonguay (Superior Carpet Cleaners, 97 Harlow Hill Road, Mexico, 364-7911) and talked to his answering service. She said he is still helping customers in Rumford and for you to call her and she will have him call you.

If that doesn’t work, Sun Spots suggests you try one of the other carpet cleaners listed in the Yellow Pages. Even though they aren’t in Rumford proper, they should still provide service in the areas where they advertise.

Finally, if anyone else wants to be mentioned, please write to Sun Spots.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you tell me if there are any barbers who make house calls in the Lisbon area. I am in a wheelchair, and MaineCare does not cover going to the barbershop. My hair is getting so long now. Thanks. — Ken, Lisbon

ANSWER: Sun Spots doesn’t have a barber (male) as such in her Rolodex, but Lynn Eberhard of Hair at Home, 782-1271 or 754-9805 (cell) said she does both men (barber service) and women and offers all services, including coloring, etc., carrying her salon with her. If anyone else is offering this service, they can write to the column, and Sun Spots will list them.
